For me, I find that what helps sometimes to follow through, especially when it comes to meeting with friends, is if I get them to call me say 40 min before we have to meet up. Of course I don't tell them, call me because I might change my mind, instead I say, call me just to make sure the plan is still the same. This way I've commited and don't want to let anyone down ...

Kittykat,

I can relate to the making the plans and then not following through. I'm pretty bad for doing that to my friends especially. We will make these plans to go out for dinner, movie.....etc. Last minute I will bail for a variety of reasons because I don't feel like going anymore. I have to keep telling myself to get up and go because once I'm with my friends and out I feel so happy to be with them. It's just the act of getting there that is an obstacle for me. Will continue working on this.

Any sugggestions?

Jimmy, I have to agree wtih you, keeping busy does serve as a distraction from being derpessed, when you are busy, there is just no time to feel down. The problem for me is that sometimes I make plans but I don't follow through, it's hard to follow through sometimes, I actually have to force myself to do what I said I will sometimes.

I have been challenging my negative thoughts.  I make plans for when i am at home so as not to let the depression seep in.  We decided to break during the week and we both get our own night out or alone as long as we plan in advance.

I can sleep, read, go for a walk or even just watch TV.  I have chosen to walk for the first couple of days by myself with the headset and it really works on calming me down and letting me sleep better at night.

I walk slow, say hi tot he neighbors and look enjoy the weather that has been given to us.

Not bad for an old guy!

It is much nicer now! Almost summer weather I would say! Makes it really hard to stay focused at work!

Appreciating every minute of sunshine though, it has helped my mood tremendously!

Hi Strength, I hear you about the weather, but things are looking up, I don' tknow about you but where I am, we've had some beautiful spring weather, the snow is almost gone, and I'm considering retirting my winter jacket for another year! What plans have you been making for the upcoming months?

I on the other hand, just managed to get through this session. I decided to stick with my negative core belief of people not liking me, and change it to "I am a nice, likeable person", that's waht this whole session was about to me, the positive. I had to define what likeable is, likeable to me is someone you would enjoy having as a friend, someone you could call up to chat, someone who remembers important details about your life, someone who just over all cares. So, when I have been demonstrating these qualities, I've taken the time to remind myself that I am in fact likeable. But, as the session mentioned, it make take a long time to make this belief stick. Ah well, can't give up now...

How is everyone else doing?

Kat

Something I have been struggling with the past few weeks has been the weather. I feel like a serious case of the winter blues has settled in and it has made it really hard for me to focus on the sessions and my homework. I have been working lots and on my off-time spending it with my kids and glued to the tv (the olympics are so exciting)! Having said that, I have been challenging lots of negative thinking by making plans for the next few months when the weather gets nicer. Having plans for the next few months makes me feel excited and allows me to ward off the negative thinking.

Members,

If you are just joining us, we are working through the Depression Centre program together, as a group.  If you have already started the program feel free to add your thoughts.  You may even decide to review this session for the purpose of this group discussion.

If you are not at Session 9 yet please check back in the forums and find the discussion on the session you have completed, add your thoughts and view what others have had to say.

Our goals for this session are to:
•    Review your homework from last week
•    Introduce you to some techniques for challenging and changing your negative core beliefs

How have you been challenging your negative thinking? What are your thoughts about session 9? Which Auxiliary sessions do you plan on completing and why?
